More Winter Wilderness Survival - Class A or B Uniforms Required

Last week we learned about the 3 W's of dressing for winter weather outdoors.  This week we are going to build on that and talk about shelter and emergency preparedness.  Please bring some warm clothing as some of our training will be outside tonight.

It's getting cold! Time to break out the winter gear. (Class A or B uniforms)

This week we will meet at the Church at 7:00 pm to learn more about cold weather camping and a few outdoor tools we have available to us.  We are lucky here in Utah to have all four seasons to camp in, and some of the most memorable moments for our Troop have come from outdoor events in January and February.  Let's learn how to take advantage of these opportunities safely.

Time permitting we will also begin making plans for 2012.

Apologies!

All, it looks like I mixed up this week and last week a little.  I'm sorry if anyone ended up at the Stake Center Wednesday - I got my wires crossed on this part.  It appears as though I was correct after all!  Boy, I thought age begat wisdom, not memory loss!

The Camp is still a reality though - we'll be meeting at the Mack's at 3:30.  The weather is supposed to get down into the low 50's overnight and we are not allowed to have a camp fire, so dress warmly.  There are plenty of activities including the Radio Merit badge, and it will be helping Herriman City with disaster planning - it should be fun!

4pm-6pm Check in, set up, and dinner as individual units (we'll be bringing in Pizza!)
6:45pm Radio Merit Badge instruction at the Rosecrest Pavilion (will continue until 10pm)
8:00pm Activities (glow-in-the-dark volleyball, scavenger hunt, human foosball, obstacle course, on-your-own "night games")
10:00pm Return to tents, quiet time

SATURDAY:

7:00am Flag Ceremony at flagpoles by the playground
7:15-8am Breakfast
7:45am Tents and equipment must be off the field - "LEAVE NO TRACE"
8:15-12:00pm Radio merit badge instruction at the Rosecrest Pavilion including Jamboree On The Air, time to make contact with other scouts
12:00pm Check out

Conference and Camp - King Benjamin it is not!

We have two events this week.  First is Wednesday at 7:00 pm at the Stake Center - Sunday Dress.  It's the youth session of Stake Conference.

Second is Friday afternoon.  Be at the Mack's at 3:30 and ready for our overnight camp.  We will be participating in the jamboree at Butterfield Park as part of the community emergency prep test.  Dinner and breakfast will be provided, as well as a full slate of activities.  Keep an eye on the forecast and plan for a cool night.  We also have a chance to complete the Radio Merit Badge - an extra bonus!
